Cette étude concerne la tendance à négliger l'information sur la probabilité a priori au profit de l'information individualisante. On part du principe que les sujets manifestent cette tendance puisqu'ils privilégient l'hypothèse de la forte valeur discriminante de l'information individualisante. Selon l'hypothèse proposée, la tendance à négliger l'information sur la probabilité a priori doit s'atténuer dans deux cas. Quand les sujets ne connaissent pas les catégories évoquées et ils ne sont pas en mesure d'évaluer la valeur discriminante de l'information individualisante. Quand ils les connaissent, mais quand selon leurs connaissances, les caractéristiques contenues dans l'information individualisante ne correspondent pas à celles qu'ils considèrent comme discriminantes. Ainsi en reprenant l'histoire des avocats et des ingénieurs de Tversky et Kahneman, on manipule le type de catégories professionnelles proposées aux sujets. Les résultats d'une première expérience permettent de justifier leur choix. Ceux d'une seconde expérience montrent l'impact des professions choisies sur les écarts entre les estimations des sujets et les résultats de calcul de la probabilité en confirmant l'hypothèse.
