Le Paléolithique du Jura méridional

An essentially chalky territory where the Lower Paleolithic is not known for a certainty. The Middle Paleolithic exists at the West of the Ain river (Suran valley and Revermont) Eastwards, the Middle (?) or Upper Magdalenian is solely present. Most of the sites have been excavated too soon. The slowness of the modern excavations and the insufficient number of the absolute datings do not allow, yet, to have a very large chronological and stratigraphic frame.

Region essentiellement calcaire ou le Paléolithique inférieur n'est pas connu avec certitude. Le Paléolithique moyen existe à l'Ouest de la rivière d'Ain (vallée du Suran et Revermont). A l'Est, c'est le Magdalénien moyen (?) ou supérieur qui est uniquement représenté. La plupart des gisements ont été exploités trop tôt. La lenteur des fouilles modernes et le nombre insuffisant de datations absolues ne permettent pas encore un cadre chronologique et stratigraphique très large.
