Dans deux petites vallées affluentes de la Seine, la sédimentation holocène présente des caractères exceptionnels. La série holocène débute par une diatomite calcifiée, recouverte par une tourbe. L'analyse pollinique montre que la diatomite calcifiée s'est accumulée durant l'Atlantique et le Subboréal, la formation de la tourbe débutant vers 3 600 B P. L'extension d'Alnus caractérise la seconde partie de l'Atlantique, tandis que le déclin d' Ulmus marque nettement la limite Atlantique-Subboréal. Le Subatlantique présente deux phases. La première phase, correspondant au développement de la tourbière, est caractérisée par l'extension des Cypéracées et des Fougères. La seconde phase révèle l'existence d'une activité humaine avec l'apparition des Céréales et la présence constante de nombreuses plantes rudérales. Les résultats de l'analyse des diatomées montre que les formes littorales et épiphytes d'eau douce prédominent durant l'Atlantique et le Subboréal. La succession des diatomées témoigne d'un milieu légèrement alcalin et peu profond. La faune de mollusques et d'ostracodes est caractérisée par la présence d'espèces d'eaux douces et stagnantes. Dans l'une des deux vallées, la tourbe supérieure présente une intercalation sableuse contenant des foraminifères indiquant des -apports estuariens durant le Subatlantique.
