Some recurrences concerning the orientations of the "Roman" cadastres, or the ones believed to be so, have raised the problem of their origins. A statistical analysis of 180 listed orientations allows to confirm that they gather on a few angles easy to build au cordeau, by means of the ratio of small whole numbers, either on the chord according to the diameter of a circle, or on both sides of a right angle which therefore determines the orientation of the hypotenuse. Then we show that the relative orientations of such structures between them or in comparison with roads also come from ratios of small whole numbers. Therefore no conclusion can be drawn concerning historic similarities or different orientations of cadastres which are inevitable consequences of their construction.

Des récurrences d'orientations de cadastres « romains » ou supposés tels, ont posé le problème de leurs origines. Une analyse statistique de 180 orientations recensées permet de confirmer que les orientations se regroupent sur quelques angles faciles à construire au cordeau par le rapport de nombres entiers petits, soit sur la corde relativement au diamètre d'un cercle, soit sur les deux côtés d'un angle droit déterminant ainsi l'orientation de l'hypoténuse. On montre ensuite que les orientations relatives de telles structures entre elles ou par rapport à des routes s'expriment aussi par des rapports d'entiers petits. On ne peut donc tirer aucune conclusion d'ordre historique de similitudes ou de différences d'orientation des cadastres, conséquences fatales de leur mode de construction.
