Les recherches entreprises sur le barrage de l'Agly ont, entre autres, permis la fouille d'une petite exploitation rurale d'époque romaine occupée entre le milieu du Ier siècle ap. J.-C. et le début du IVe siècle. Sous le sol d'une pièce d'habitation, quatre dépôts livrant chacun un vase complet et le squelette plus ou moins complet d'une poule, ont été découverts. Les gestes pratiqués lors des enfouissements ont pu être retrouvés avec une certaine précision. Ils témoignent sans conteste d'une forme d'expression de croyances magiques, s'insérant ainsi dans les diverses pratiques cultuelles d'époque romaine utilisant les oiseaux.
