Jürgen Voss: A Fragment of an Unknown Version of the Encyclopédie. In 1768, the journal L'Europe littéraire, published in Mannheim, announced the publication of an Encyclopédie augmentée de l'histoire des hommes illustres. However, as the journal folded in the same year, the project was discontinued. Only a 96-page fragment containing articles from A to « Abeilles » was published by the Electoral printing-house in Mannheim and probably edited by J.D. Schöpflin, president of the Mannheim Academy of Sciences. While this fragment reproduces unchanged many of the Encyclopédie articles, several were shortened, 15 new articles were added, mainly on historical figures, and the article abandonnement was lengthened.
