Résumé En

Anthony Wall : Diderot and Bakhtin. With Reference to Rameau's Nephew. Diderot's dialogue Rameau's Nephew contains an implicit theory of dialogic exchange which should have attracted more attention in the cultural philosopher Mikhail Baktin's writing on dialogue. The dialogue in Diderot's text profoundly challenges the assumption that dialogue is squarely founded on language alone, as Bakhtin seems to believe. One of the extraverbal dimensions that Diderot provocatively highlights lies in the corporeal realm of the written voice. Whereas Bakhtin argues that Dialogism as such can only be activated in the novelistic text which is read in silence, the bodily dimension of Diderot's dialogue can only be rendered by a voice which performs out loud.
