Résumé En

Hisayasu Nakagawa : Diderot as a Writer of the Enlightenment. Diderot's presentation of the philosopher changed between his stay in Saint Petersburg (from the end of 1773 to the beginning of 1774) and the second edition of his Essai sur les règnes de Claude et de Néron. The learned and professorial aura of the ideal philosopher was gradually accompanied, and eventually replaced, by that of the philosopher as a political advisor, embodied by Seneca, with whom Diderot obviously identified himself. We thus see a Diderot who was certainly a man of the Enlightenment, but it was an Enlightenment enhanced by its darker shadows.
