Benoît Petit. — Introduction to a sociological study of sport : line fishing in the G.D.R. A reading of some sports journals or specialist works on the subject of fishing gives the author an opportunity to situate the practice of line fishing within its general context in the G.D.R. It appears, at least judging from the texts, to be encouraged by a multiplicity of favourable conditions, social and political as well as natural. A more studied sociological approach to the literature yields several possible interpretations of the sportsmen's Association of the « Deutsche Angler Verband » (DAV) whose functions, structures and stated aims are analysed in turn. An examination of some instances of « things unsaid » or reading between the lines of the texts under consideration, supplemented by some oral testimony, throws light on both the originality and the regular characteristics of the amateur fishermen (through not to the extent of establishing a typology) : this pastime compared with other (more urban) sports, other (nobler ?) forms of practice, or an other country (in this case France) suggests statistical and linguistic comparisons which raise quite a number of methodological problems.

La lecture de quelques revues de sport halieutiques ou d'ouvrages spécialisés permet à l'auteur d'évoquer le cadre général dans lequel s'inscrit la pratique de la pêche à la ligne en République démocratique allemande : elle semble, du moins dans les textes, encouragée par de multiples conditions favorables, tant naturelles que sociales ou politiques. Une approche sociologique plus poussée discerne dans la littérature plusieurs présentations possibles de l'Association des sportifs du « Deutsche Angler Verband » (DAV), dont le fonctionnement, les structures et les objectifs avoués sont présentés tour à tour. L'analyse de quelques « non-dits » ou silence des textes considérés, complétée par quelques témoignages oraux, permettent de dégager l'originalité et les constances (sans pouvoir dégager de typologie) des pêcheurs amateurs ; ce passe-temps confronté avec d'autres sports (plus urbains), d'autres pratiques (plus nobles ?) ou un autre pays (ici la France) suscite des comparaisons statistiques et linguistiques qui posent bien des problèmes méthodologiques.
