Le « Péan de Berlin » : une relecture

In order to re-discover the metrical, the rythmical and the melodic structure of the so-called " Berlin Paean ", one has to study the material disposition of the Latin military text (recto) and of the Greek musical scores (verso) written on the papyrus. It leads us to reconsider the original width of the sheet, and to give a new musical analysis (paeonic decasyllables, the last syllabe being " protracted ", Hypolydian diatonic scale, with three disjunct Tetrachords), and a new transcription of the paean, which can be ascribed to Mesomedes of Crete, Hadrian's friend and composer.

Cet article réexamine le papyrus inv. n° 6870 conservé au Musée Égyptien de Berlin. Elle fait l'hypothèse que le document latin était disposé au recto en deux colonnes centrées, et que le péan du verso, de douze lignes, adoptait un rythme traditionnel de péan à cinq temps, ce qui restitue au morceau toute sa cohérence et toute sa subtilité, qu'on peut proposer d'attribuer à Mésomède de Crète.
