Cet article propose un cadre d'analyse pour étudier les marchés comme des constructions institutionnelles. Trois groupes de questions concernant l'organisation des marchés sont identifiés. Le premier renvoie à la nature du bien échangé, le second à l'identité des participants au marché, et le troisième aux processus d'échange eux-mêmes. À chacun de ces niveaux, on voit à l'œuvre les mains visibles de diverses institutions, qui imposent normes et règles, et influencent valeurs et comportements.
