Microhabitats des escargots Achatinidae d’une forêt tropicale humide : le parc national du Banco (Côte d’Ivoire)

Summary. — Microhabitats of Achatinidae in a tropical rainforest : Banco National Park (Ivory Coast). — Research was performed in Banco National Park (Ivory Coast) in order to locate Achatinidae snails inside this park and identify which factors condition the choice of these microhabitats. It resulted that (i) there are several preferential microhabitats for Achatinidae : these are the litter, the soil, the leaves, the herbs, the branches and the dead or living tree trunks ; (ii) Achatina achatina, Archachatina marginata var. eduardi, Archachatina marginata var. egregiella and Limicolaria flammea are addicted to the soil and/ or the litter, while Achatina fulica and Lignus intertinctus prefer higher locations (herbs, leaves). Archachatina ventricosa seems to adapt itself to all microhabitats ; (iii) microhabitat selection is conditioned by factors such as floods or drought episodes which lead some species to find shelter high in the vegetation or to bury themselves into the soil where they stay in a slow motion state.

. — Des recherches ont été conduites dans le Parc National du Banco (Côte d’Ivoire) afin de déterminer les localisations des escargots Achatinidae à l’intérieur de ce parc et les facteurs qui conditionnent le choix de ces microhabitats. Il en est résulté que (i) il existe plusieurs microhabitats préférentiels pour les escargots Achatinidae : ce sont la litière, le sol, les feuilles, les herbes, les rameaux, les branches et les troncs d’arbres morts ou vivants ; (ii) Achatina achatina, Archachatina marginata var. eduardi, Archachatina marginata var. egregiella et Limicolaria flammea affectionnent le sol et/ ou la litière, tandis que Achatina fulica et Lignus intertinctus orientent leur choix vers les hauteurs (herbes, feuilles). Archachatina ventricosa semble lui s’adapter à tous les microhabitats ; (iii) le choix du microhabitat est conditionné par des facteurs tels que les inondations et les épisodes de temps sec qui amènent certaines espèces à se réfugier en hauteur ou à s’enterrer pour mener une vie ralentie.
