This article examines the phenomena of division and codification into masculin and féminin roles between lesbians during the 50ies in the USA and highlights the part of the given political and social environment in the construction of identity. The author dissociates from the prevailing conception of these phenomena as a reproduction as a heterosexual society and accounts for the masculinity of « hutches » as a straight response to a repressive regime.
