Résumé En Fr

THE RACIAL PROBLEM IN GREAT BRITAIN : COLOURED COMMONWEALTH IMMIGRANTS, by CLAUDE JOURNÈS The racial problem in Great Britain must be seen in its national historical and cultural context. This means that one should not forget the peaceful nature of decolonisation and the integration of coloured Commonwealth immigrants in a country which has lost its imperial sway. Given this, it is important to determine instances of diffuse racism and precise acts of discrimination at the social level. Lastly, an assessment must be made of the political interpretation of « racism » by the extreme right and its adversaries, and also by the two main parties, for by this means it is possible to understand a paradoxical official policy which seems at once egalitarian, discriminatory and repressive.
