: Small mountain lakes represent interesting ecosystems particularly from the point of view of their biodiversity. This article examines the environmental changes that can threaten the water quality of such lakes. A limnological survey was conducted in summer on Lake Bénit (4 ha) in the French Alps with a view to identifying its main chemical and biological characteristics. Numerous parameters indicate that the main threat for the lake is eutrophication (phosphorus in water, summer depletion of hypolimnetic water, blue green algae). The excess of phosphorus arises from flooded soils. A general management strategy for such a lake is discussed.

Résumé : Le lac Bénit représente une ressource biologique et touristique de valeur. Son état a été évalué à partir de quelques suivis réalisés en été et en automne. Les paramètres physico-chimiques ont été complétés par l'analyse de la diversité spécifique du phytoplancton. Le diagnostic révèle un lac fragile en raison d'une nette tendance à l'eutrophisation causée par les apports exogènes en provenance du bassin versant.
