Der Beitrag stellt zunächst, unter Berücksichtigung der Entwicklung der historischen Disziplin und Praxis, eine Bilanz der grossen (vor allem französischen) Editionsprojekte auf, bevor er die verschiedenen, jeweils vom historischen Ansatz bestimmten Formen von Quellenpublikationen, Repertorien und Studien, Arbeitsmitteln, Zeitschriften und Kolloquiumsakten, Universitätsschriften, grossen Überblicksdarstellungen sowie Handbüchern ins Auge fasst, ferner die Frage stellt, welchen Einfluss Editionen — in deren Rahmen die Rehgionsgeschichte eine spezifische Position einmmmt — auf die Forschung ausübten, und schliesslich eine quantitativ beeindruckende Bilanz zieht, die geprägt ist von emer zeitgenössischen Strömung, die die « brossen Unternehmen », die aus menschhcher Sicht zu meinstern sind, bevorzugt.

A bibliographical balance-sheet put into context and presenting the principal publishing operations (essentially French) in the light of the evolution of the discipline and practice of history, extends across domains such as the publication of sources, inventories and investigations, research aids, reviews and conferences, university research and monographs, major syntheses, and student textbooks. All of these domains are diverse, but are brought together under one roof by the practice of the historian's craft It also involves taking into consideration the effects of publishing, of a world m which religious history enjoys a specific position, but which is marked by a contemporary development which favours " major operations " whose scale is nevertheless practicable from a human viewpoint.

Un bilan bibliographique mis en situation et présentant les grandes manifestations éditonales (essentiellement françaises) à la lumière de l'évolution de la discipline et de la pratique historienne, conduit à parcourir les domaines — divers, mais réunis par l'exercice du métier d'historien — des publications de sources, répertoires et enquêtes, instruments de travail, revues et colloques, travaux universitaires et monographies, grandes synthèses, enfin manuels universitaires, et à prendre en considération les effets retour de l'édition, un monde où l'histoire religieuse a une position spécifique, pour tirer un bilan quantitativement considerable, mais marqué par une évolution contemporaine qui favorise les « grandes entreprises » d'ampleur maîtrisable à vue humaine.
