E. Frank : The theme of testing in Pierre Emmanuel's works My aim in this paper read to theological students was not to make an exhaustive study of a theme or poem from a Literary point of view, but rather to broach an existential problem close to the hearts of future theologians and pastors, doubtless called to share the burden of other people's suffering.

Mon objectif dans cet exposé présenté à des étudiants en théologie n'a pas été l'étude exhaustive d'un thème et d'un poème du point de vue littéraire, mais plutôt l'approche d'une interrogation existentielle susceptible de parler à de futurs théologiens et pasteurs, appelés sans doute à être des «familiers de la souffrance» d'autrui.
