The thesis of the disenchantment of the world is proven, most of all, by the reduction of the room for living to geometrical properties. Could it be that, in this respect, walking is a sort of protest against such a symbolic impoverishment ? Even if the «world » is mostly disenchanted, walking remains a way of experiencing and thinking about life beyond the alternative of naturalism and spiritualism. One might say that the walker steps over the distinctions that, in a recurring dualism, are often considered to be uncompromising oppositions.

La thèse du désenchantement du monde se vérifie, avant tout, avec la réduction de l’espace du vivre à des propriétés géométriques. La marche, à cet égard, ne serait-elle pas une forme de protestation contre un tel appauvrissement symbolique ? Même si le «monde » est largement désenchanté, la marche continue de s’offrir à nous comme une manière d’expérimenter et de penser le vivre par-delà l’alternative du naturalisme et du spiritualisme. Le marcheur, pourrait-on dire, fait l’expérience d’enjamber des distinctions qu’un dualisme récurrent fait passer pour des oppositions intraitables.
