Prometheus and Yima : the feast of mortality Based on investigations by Georges Dumézil and Jean-Pierre Vernant, it may be shown that the same complex structure underlies the career of the Titan Prometheus and the god Yima : the three transgressions perpetrated by the Iranian sovereign — which other Oriental traditions had already united into a body — concur with those committed by Japheth's son. Here and there rebellion, deception and the introduction of meat put an end to a golden age and inaugurated the age of mortality for man.

A partir des recherches de G. Dumézil et de J.-P. Vernant il est possible de montrer qu'une même structure complexe soustend les carrières du titan Prométhée et du roi Yima : les trois fautes que commet le souverain iranien — et que d'autres traditions orientales permettent déjà d'articuler en un ensemble — concordent avec celles dont se rend coupable le fils de Japet. Ici et là, rébellion, tromperie et introduction de la nourriture carnée mettent fin à une situation d'âge d'or et ouvrent pour les hommes le temps de la mortalité.
