From myth to poetics : the weaving of Penelope's song The originality of this study concerns the relationship established between odyssean poetics and the mythology of weaving : viewed in this perspective, Penelope, the weaver, symbolically assumes the role of a virgin ready for marriage. Such a symbolic role, while agreeing with the suitors wooing, creates a series of important effects that renew and enrich the interpretation of Penelope's activity. In the wake of this thesis, the author deals with the weaving metaphor for the poem's composition, the relation of the suitors to the sacrificial ritual, and Odysseus' glory.

L'originalité de ce livre est d'avoir mis en rapport la poétique odysséenne avec la mythologie du tissage : éclairée par ce contexte, Pénélope tisserande devient un faux-semblant de vierge au seuil du mariage. Ce rôle symbolique, qui s'accorde avec la sollicitation des prétendants, crée une série d'effets importants qui renouvellent et enrichissent l'interprétation de l'activité de Pénélope. Dans le sillage de cette thèse, l'auteur de l'article s'interroge sur le tissage comme métaphore de la composition du poème, sur le rapport des prétendants au rituel sacrificiel et sur la gloire d'Ulysse.
