Thot and the speech This article examines the role of the Egyptian god Thot as god of the speech. Master of hieroglyphs and language, the god of eloquence Thot also formulates a creative utterance within a cosmogonie process : the main sources regarding this aspect of Thot will be analysed. Other aspects related to this theme such as Thot's oracular function and the intellectual capacities attributed to his emblematic animals (the baboon and the ibis) are taken into consideration. And finally the question of divine language will lead us towards the Greco-Egyptian hermetism.

Cet article propose d'étudier le rôle du dieu égyptien Thot en tant que dieu de la parole. Maître des hiéroglyphes et du langage, dieu présidant à l'éloquence, Thot est aussi le formulateur d'une parole créatrice proférée dans un processus cosmogonique : les principales sources concernant cet aspect du dieu sont ici analysées. D'autres aspects de cette thématique sont abordés, comme le rôle oraculaire du dieu, et les facultés intellectuelles prêtées à ses animaux emblématiques (babouin et ibis). La question du langage divin nous conduit enfin jusqu'à l'hermétisme gréco-égyptien.
