The author shows that the names of both Gesioriacum and Bononia are simultaneously attested as early as the first century A.D. : they must designate two different districts of Boulogne. Neither history nor documents can help us choose which of these names refer to the higher part, which to the lower part of the city. Comparative toponymy may lead us to attach Bononio to the lower town, whose name survived because of the importance of the harbour. A meaningful precision for the history of the «British» port.

L'auteur montre que les deux noms de Gesoriacum et Bononia sont attestés simultanément dès le premier siècle de notre ère : ils doivent désigner deux quartiers différents de Boulogne. L'histoire et les textes ne permettent pas de choisir lequel représente la ville haute, lequel la ville basse. La toponymie comparée autorise à voir en Bononia le quartier bas, dont le nom a subsisté en raison de l'importance du port. Précision importante pour l'histoire du port «britannique».
