The Principle of the "Simplicité des Voies" in the Second Half of the XVIIth Century. The object of this article is to analyse the principle, both scientific and philosophical, of the "simplicité des voies" as it appears in Malebranche, by confronting it on the one hand to the Cartesian notion of simple operation and on the other to Leibniz's notion of the principle of determination. This confrontation illustrates which shifts a same principle undergoes as it is applied to various areas of science like mechanics, optics or geometry.

L'objectif de cet article est d'analyser le principe, à la fois scientifique et philosophique, de la simplicité des voies, tel qu'il apparaît chez Malebranche, en le confrontant d'une part à la notion cartésienne d'opération simple, d'autre part à la notion leibnizienne de principe de détermination. Cette confrontation illustre les infléchissements subis par un même principe dans son passage d'un domaine scientifique à un autre : mécanique, optique, géométrie.

Het beginsel van de eenvoud van de wegen in de tweede helft van de XVIIIe eeuw. De bedoeling is het zowel wetenschappelijke als filosofische beginsel van de eenvoud van de wegen, zoals dat bij Malebranche opduikt, te analyseren door een vergelijking met de Cartesiaanse gedachte van de eenvoudige operatie en anderzijds met de opvatting van Leibniz over het determinatieprincipe. Die confrontatie toont de veranderingen die eenzelfde principe kan ondergàan tijdens de overgang van het wetenschappelijke domein naar een ander : mechanica, optica en geométrie.
