The formation of basic communities, in accordance with the 2nd Vatican Council, has made it most urgent to train catechists. Consequently an educational centre has been set up in Goukounou for the dioceses of Northern Benin. A 9-month training programme that implies living in a community, participating in the learning process and a change in personal attitudes, prepares catechists for two jobs as they will also be the leaders of their communities. The religious part of the programme which gives a major role to listening to the Word of God is completed by a necessary professional training geared to evangelising which includes development.

La constitution de communautés de base, à la suite du Concile, a rendu plus urgente la formation des catéchistes. C'est ainsi qu'un Centre de formation a été établi à Goukounou pour les diocèses du Nord-Bénin. Orientée vers une vie communautaire, une pédagogie participative et une transformation personnelle, cette formation de 9 mois prépare des catéchistes qui seront aussi des chefs de communauté. À une formation religieuse qui accorde une place majeure à l'écoute de la Parole de Dieu s'ajoute une formation professionnelle indispensable à une évangélisation qui inclut le développement.
