Melchior Goldast and Christina Queen of Sweden

In the year 1650 the city of Bremen in Germany gave Christina, the queen of Sweden, a gift of thirty-two Greek and Latin manuscripts which had earlier belonged to Melchior Goldast of Switzerland. The items involved are here traced to the University of Leiden (10) through Christina’s librarian, Isaac Vossius, and to Rome (18) where at her death (a. 1689) Christina’s own collection of manuscripts became the Codices Reginenses at the Vatican. One item is still at Bremen. One item is lost and another two have yet to be identified.

En 1650 la ville de Bremen, en Allemagne, fit don, à Christine, reine de Suède, de trentedeux manuscrits grecs et latins, qui avaient appartenu au Suisse Melchior Goldast. Grâce au bibliothécaire de Christine, Isaac Vossius, dix de ces manuscrits sont maintenant conservés à l’université de Leyde, dix-huit sont à Rome parmi les manuscrits intégrés à la Bibliothèque vaticane dans le fond des Codices Reginensis à la mort de Christine.
