Dans la région des mines d'Aghios Philippos de Kirki (Grèce du Nord) a été étudiée l'altération d'une granodiorite à hornblende et biotite, qui se trouve proche d'une veine minéralisée en blende, pyrite et galène. On distingue trois zones d'altération où prédominent les minéraux suivants : (1 ) zone de la pyrophyllite ; (2) zone de l'illite et de la montmorillonite ; (3) zone de l'illite. La formation de l'illite est attribuée à l'altération hydrothermale de l'orthose, celle de la montmorillonite à l'altération du plagioclase. La prolongation de la zone à illite au-delà de la zone à montmorillonite est attribuée à deux phases successives d'activité hydro thermale. La présence de pyrophyllite indique des températures élevées pour les solutions hydrothermales, peut-être à caractère catathermal (300 -350°C environ).
