Marek Świdziński, « Interclausal syntactic connections in contemporary Polish », Revue des Études Slaves, ID : 10.3406/slave.1990.5897
It is claimed in the article that agreement and government patterns in Polish are not restricted to simple sentences. То illustrate the point, the category of tense is examined. A variety of temporal constraints in Polish subordinate compound sentences are discussed within the framework of a formal grammar of Polish. A number of conjunctions requiring that a clause containing them be of a definite value of tense are listed. It is shown that in sentences which contain a temporal clause a kind of temporal agreement between the finite centers of such a sentence and of that clause takes place. The same kind of agreement can be observed in coordinate temporal clauses. The problem of temporal characteristics of non-declarative and impersonal verbs is also taken into considération.
