BERNARD LAMY At the beginning of the seventies, American (and British) sociology widely questioned an interpretation of racism in terms of prejudice, which meant favoring psychological or social psychological explanations. The major tendency went to macrosocial conditions of racism. An overall examination of recent research indicates that such an interpretation has well enlarged the range of its conceptual tools but has been unable by itself to unify the field of study. Other research lines, some from the older period, have addressed remaining or rising issues.

: Autour du début des années soixante-dix, l'analyse anglo-américaine du racisme a largement mis en question une interprétation en termes de préjugé qui conduisait à insister sur les conditions psychologiques et psychosociologiques. L'accent a été mis sur les conditions macro-sociales du racisme. Le tableau de la recherche que l'on fait ici montre que cette orientation n'est pas à elle seule capable d'unifier le domaine d'étude.
