Vom Ideal der Schönheit zu Zuschreibungsfragen. Zwanzig Jahre Forschung zum florentinischen Bildnis des 16. Jahrhunderts. Als zu bekannt angesehen, bezüglich seiner generellen Entwicklung, oder nicht bekannt genug in Bezug zum Bildnis des Quattrocento, wurde das florentinische Bildnis des 16. Jahrhunderts erst seit den 1980er Jahren Gegenstand der Forschung ; dank der großen Ausstellungen über die Kunst in der Toskana unter den Medici und dank der Studien über die mediceischen Bildnisse. Die große Zahl letztgenannter Studien sowie auch zeitgenössische Quellen bezeugen die Rezeption dieser Gattung durch verschiedene Maler. Die reiche neue Bibliographie macht die Schwierigkeiten deutlich, die bei dem Versuch einer Katalogisierung dieser Gattung nach Künstlern oder bei dem Bemühen um eine Identifizierung der Modelle entstehen. Es werden hingegen neue Problemkreise deutlich, wie z. B. die Importtanz des Konzepts der Schönheit, die Konzeption eines Modells des florentinischen Bildnisses oder die akademische Praxis des Bildnisses.

From the ideal of beauty to issues of attribution. Twenty years of research on 16th century Florentine portraiture. Considered too familiar in its overall evolution or not eminent enough in relation to Quattrocento portraiture, 16th century Florentine portraiture has become a topic of research only since the 1980s, thanks to important exhibitions on art in Tuscany during the Medici rule and to studies on Medicean portraiture. The latter's magnitude, along with ancient sources, bear witness to the genre's success amongst painters. However, the recent and abundant bibliography reveals the difficulty of establishing a corpus of works by an artist for this genre and of identifying their models. It also highlights new fields of research, such as the importance of the concept of beauty, the constitution of a model of Florentine portraiture, or the practice of portraiture within the Academy.

Dall'ideale di bellezza ai problemi di attribuzione. Vent'anni di ricerca sul ritratto fiorentino nel XVI secolo. Considerato troppo noto per quanto attiene alla sua evoluzione generale, o non abbastanza rispetto al ritratto del Quattrocento, il ritratto fiorentino del XVI secolo diventa argomento di studio soltanto dagli anni 1980 in poi, grazie alle grandi mostre sulle arti in Toscana sotto i Medici e grazie agli studi sui ritratti medicei. Il gran numero di questi ultimi come fonti antiche dà testimonianza della fortuna di questo genere presso i diversi pittori. La ricca bibliografia recente mostra le difficoltà che si incontrano a definire per questo genere un catalogo per artista o d'identificare i modelli. Essa inoltre mette in evidenza nuovi ambiti di ricerca, come quello dell'importanza del concetto di bellezza, la costituzione di un modello del ritratto fiorentino o le pratiche accademiche del ritratto.

Jugé trop connu dans son évolution générale ou pas assez glorieux par rapport au portrait du Quattrocento, le portrait florentin du XVIe siècle est devenu un thème d'étude seulement que depuis les années 1980, grâce aux grandes expositions sur les arts en Toscane sous les Médicis et aux études sur les portraits médicéens. Le grand nombre de ceux-ci comme les sources anciennes, témoignent de la fortune du genre auprès des différents peintres. L'ample bibliographie récente montre les difficultés d'établir un catalogue par artiste pour ce genre ou d'identifier les modèles. Elle souligne aussi de nouvelles pistes de recherche, comme l'importance du concept de beauté, la constitution d'un modèle du portrait florentin, ou les pratiques académiques du portrait.
