Valentin de Boulogne Porträts von Raffaello Menicucci : Der naerrische Graf von Monte San Savino Dieser Artikel ist neues Material für das aktuelle Verständnis des Porträts von Raffaello Menicucci, gemalt von dem französischem Künstler Valentin de Boulogne um das Jahr 1630 in Rom und jetzt in Indianapolis im Museum of Art ausgestellt. Menicucci war ein Mann mittleren Alters aus der toskanischen Stadt Monte San Savino, der verließ seine Heimatstadt um ein Narr zu werden, zuerst Hof des Großherzoges der Toskana und später dass von Urban der VIII. in Rom. Dieses Gemälde wird von den wichtigsten Ausstellung der Werken von Valentin de Boulogne, im Jahr 2016 in MET und im Louvre, gehostet werden. This article contributes new material to current understanding of a portrait of Raffaello Menicucci by the French artist, Valentin de Boulogne, painted in Rome c1630, and now in the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Menicucci was a middle-aged man from the Tuscan city of Monte San Savino who left to become a buffoon in the court of the Grand Duke of Tuscany and later of Urban VIII in Rome. This painting will be travelling to the major exhibition of the work of Valentin de Boulogne to held later in 2016 at the MET and the Louvre. I offer here a fuller picture of Raffaello Menicucci – based on research conducted by an Italian scholar who introduced me to the archives in Monte San Savino, an unpublished document I found in Rome that at present is the only proof of his presence at the court of Urban VIII and information about the provenance of the painting that is at present not published.

Menicucci era un toscano di mezza età nativo di Monte San Savino, città che poi lasciò per diventare ’ buffone’ nella Corte del Granduca di Toscana e, in seguito, in quella di Urbano VIII a Roma. Il dipinto sarà ospitato dalla più importante mostra su Valentin de Boulogne tenutasi nel 2016 al MET e al Louvre. Nel presente articolo si fornisce il quadro completo di Raffaello Menicucci, basato sulla ricerca condotta da uno studioso italiano che mi ha fatto accedere agli archivi di Monte San Savino, su un documento inedito reperito a Roma che attualmente è l’unica prova della sua presenza alla Corte di Urbano VIII e su altre informazioni riguardanti la provenienza del dipinto che al momento non sono ancora pubblicate.
