A stone door pediment, representing the sculpture of a wooden framework (fig. 3) found in Brad (North Syria) shows very clearly that the suspended "awl" conception was well known in the 6th cent. This solution allows the roof to cover a much larger span than did those of classical times. Hence the interest of this document.
