Une approche fondée sur l’étude des formules architecturales utilisées pour les unités composant les palais néo-assyriens (premier tiers du Ier millénaire) ainsi que sur l’organisation des circulations horizontales et verticales a permis de retrouver les liens qui unissent rez-de-chaussée et étage, de préciser l’usage de formules stéréotypées, de marquer le rôle essentiel du groupe de la salle du trône comme pivot structurant l’ensemble de l’organisation palatiale, de mettre en évidence la spécificité du bitanu et l’utilisation de salles hypostyles à l’étage. Une catégorisation des palais néo-assyriens est proposée à la fin de cette étude.
