Adolphe Gesché, « L'agonie de la Résurrection ou la Descente aux Enfers », Revue Théologique de Louvain, ID : 10.3406/thlou.1994.2672
Provided that cosmological representations are maintained and interpreted within «hermeneutical distance» they constitute a way of expressing the events offaith. Thus, the theme of Jésus' s Descent to Hell allows us to understand that the Résurrection is only obtained at the end of a burden- some struggle which does not come to an end with the Crucifixion alone. It is with this meaning that we have tried to speak of the Cross as being an «agony», a combat (agôn), which continues «for three days», a combat which Jésus undertook since his public ministery until his death. The «agony» finishes this time in the glory of victory, but a victory which is unlikely to appear as a magical miracle (which it is not).
