Résumé En

The composition of the Rudens has been reproached for reflecting a clumsy poet. Indeed, Plautus is accused either to have «contaminated » (i. e., worked together the plots of two Greek comedies) or to have reworked one single original, without being able to give his play any unity. However, these reproaches are questionable in themselves. Moreover, independently of the question of its sources, the coherence of the play can be seen in a structure carefully built as well as in other dimensions such as the atmosphere, the images and the themes.
