Résumé En

This paper examines the constitutive elements of the epilogue in Terence’s comedies, in order to analyze them from a dramaturgical and pragmatic perspective, and to establish its functions in the closing of the work. In comparison with Plautine epilogues, those of Terence show certain differences, which imply a radical change in the palliata, especially the striking absence of a transition space between the fiction of the work and the reality of the audience. In the achievement of these effective closings, Terence introduces an innovative element : to dramatize the end of play, instead of presenting it as a narration told by an actor.
