Résumé En

This paper focuses on two passages in Epistulae ex Ponto 1.2 and 2.2 that seemingly praise Augustus’ cunctatio by alluding to the Callimachean ecphrasis of a statue of Delian Apollo (Aetia, fr. 114b Pf) holding his bow and arrows in the left hand and the Charites in the right hand. It aims at sheding a different light on this recognized reference by considering it as a contrastive allusion, that allows a more subversive reading of the lines assimilating the prince with Jupiter in Ovid’s exile poetry.
