Principes et fonctions de la métaphore en langue de spécialité dans un cadre cognitiviste

Cet article présente la vision cognitiviste de la métaphore et de ses utilisations, notamment en langue de spécialité. Il ne s’agit nullement d’une étude de corpus, fondée sur un nombre important de discours de spécialité spécifiques, mais plutôt d’une introduction aux différents courants et principes structurant la théorie de la métaphore conceptuelle. La première partie expose les principes fondateurs de la linguistique cognitive et la vision qu’elle propose de la métaphore : le processus métaphorique n’est pas seulement linguistique, mais découle de la cognition humaine qui a – entre autres – pour caractéristique d’établir des analogies entre des domaines conceptuels assez, voire totalement différents. Après une brève description des principales fonctions dévolues à la métaphore, la seconde partie de l’article aborde la question de la métaphore appliquée aux langues de spécialité. Ces fonctions seront plus particulièrement détaillées et illustrées par le biais d’énoncés métaphoriques empruntés au domaine de spécialité de la crise économique en anglais, en allemand et en français.

Der vorliegende Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit dem kognitivistischen Ansatz der Analyse von Metaphern sowie deren Verwendung in den Fachsprachen. Dabei handelt es sich nicht um die Analyse eines umfangreichen Korpus von Fachdiskursen, sondern vielmehr um eine Ein-führung in die Grundlagen und unterschiedlichen Ausprägungen der konzeptuellen Metaphern­theorie. Im ersten Teil des Beitrags werden die grund­legenden Annahmen der kognitiven Linguistik sowie deren Vision der Metapher skizziert. Der Prozess der Metaphern­verwendung ist nicht allein linguistisch verortet, sondern in Kognitionen begründet, die als wesentliches Charak­teristikum beinhalten, Analogien zwischen sehr oder sogar völlig unter­schiedlichen Domänen herzustellen. Im Anschluss an eine kurze Präsentation der grund­legenden Funktionen der Metaphern­verwendung geht es im zweiten Teil des Beitrags um deren Rolle in den Fachsprachen. Diese wird am Beispiel der Metaphern­verwendung bei der Beschreibung der ökonomischen Krise in englischen, deutschen und französischen Quellen behandelt.

This article is intended to be a short introduction to the cognitive approach to metaphor and its applications, notably in languages for specific purposes. It is not meant to be a corpus study, which would be based on a variety of discourses for specific purposes, but rather an introduction to the different trends and principles that structure the Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT). The first part presents the founding principles of Cognitive Linguistics and the vision of metaphor it established: the metaphorical process is more than a purely linguistic phenomenon as it ensues from human cognition, which is partly characterized by its capacity to establish analogies between different conceptual domains. The first part consists in a short description of the main functions of metaphors; the second part of the article deals with the question of metaphor as applied to languages for specific purposes. The functions of metaphor are further detailed and illustrated by metaphorical statements that were borrowed from the subject field of the economic crisis in English, German, and French.
