In three very detailed and ambitious chapters, The Persian Revival takes supposedly known episodes in Iranian art and architectural history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and makes them unknown to every Iranian. Grigor is quite right that “the accepted wisdom” has been that “it [the Persian Rivaval] was all Reza Shah’s idea” (p. 1).
