This study is dedicated to a priestly family in southern Babylonian city of Ur and their landholdings, in particular those managed by the Gallābu-family in the context of the state’s land-for-service system. The exceptionally long-running archive shows that the reign of Darius I and later the reign of Artaxerxes II were key moments in the incorporation of the Babylonian countryside into the Achaemenid state apparatus.
