Entre histoires de familles et histoire universelle : liens générationnels, parentés et mariages dans la représentation de la trame temporelle entourant le conflit troyen

À travers cette confrontation entre la céramique italiote et l’Alexandra, nous nous proposons de rechercher les éventuelles convergences entre un corpus d’images datant du IVe siècle avant J.-C. et un poème dont il faut peut-être situer la composition au début du IIIe siècle avant J.-C., mais qui pourrait témoigner d’une tentative de réélaboration de la matière mythologique en partie inspirée par l’actualité politique de la deuxième moitié du IVe siècle avant J.-C. Dans un précédent travail, nous avions montré que l’une des convergences les plus frappantes entre le texte et les images tenait à la présentation qui était donnée, dans les deux corpus, de l’histoire des rapports entre Europe et Asie. La question qui nous intéresse plus spécifiquement aujourd’hui est celle du traitement de la matière troyenne et de sa réélaboration dans les deux séries : l’émergence du conflit troyen et l’histoire des sacs de Troie constituent en effet des événements saillants du conflit séculaire entre Europe et Asie qui, au tournant des IVe et IIIe siècles, pouvaient aisément se prêter à une réélaboration inspirée par des événements historiques récents comme les conquêtes d’Alexandre. À travers l’exemple de la matière troyenne, nous souhaiterions analyser la présentation des liens familiaux (liens générationnels et relations de sungeneia) et des relations entre les hommes ou entre les hommes et les dieux. Les figures qui retiendront plus spécifiquement notre attention sont celles d’Hélène, d’Aithra et d’Hésione. Il s’agira notamment de voir si la présentation que le poème et les images nous donnent des liens familiaux, de la société et de l’ordre du monde se signale, dans ces différents mythes, par des particularités signifiantes. Nous nous efforcerons ainsi de voir si les rapprochements entre différents épisodes ou personnages de la légende troyenne en renforcent la signification historique pour construire un discours sur l’histoire du monde.

By comparing the scenes depicted on Italiote vases with their possible literary counterparts in Lycophron’s Alexandra, this paper intends to present possible parallels between a corpus of images dating of the 4th century BC and a poem that was possibly composed in the early 3rd century BC, but which may partly echo the way in which certain myths were re-elaborated and reworked with an ideological purpose in the wake of the political and historical events of the second half of the 4th century BC. Our focal point will be the treatment of the early causes of the Trojan conflict and the rendering of the personal histories of characters and families linked to the first and/or the second sack of Troy: at the turn of the 4th and 3rd centuries BC, these mythological events were indeed likely to be understood as one of the main examples of the everlasting conflict of Europe and Asia and were, as such, of major interest for the intellectuals and artists reacting to recent events such as the campaigns of Alexander the Great. Our intent is to pay specific attention to the presentation of family relationships (relationships between generations and cases of sungeneia) and to the question of relationships between humans and between gods and humans: some of the case-studies that we have chosen are the representations of Helen and of her birth and childhood, of Aithra, and of Hesione. We will attempt to determine if the presentation that is given of these characters and of their personal fates reflects a wider conception of family and social relationships, of history and of the order of the world. Is it possible to reconstruct an underlying presentation of world history by analyzing the way in which poetry and images establish connections between certain mythological events or characters?

Attraverso il confronto tra scene raffigurate in alcuni vasi italioti e l’Alessandra di Licofrone, questo contributo si propone di analizzare le possibili convergenze esistenti tra un gruppo di immagini del IV secolo a.C. e un poema che, forse creato all’inizio del III secolo a.C., potrebbe riflettere la rielaborazione dei miti avvenuta sulla scia degli eventi storici e politici della seconda metà del IV secolo a.C. In un precedente lavoro si è mostrato come le convergenze più significative tra il testo e le immagini riguardassero l’interpretazione fornita della storia dei rapporti tra Europa ed Asia. Il presente contributo esaminerà con particolare attenzione il trattamento riservato alle leggende troiane e alla loro rielaborazione nelle immagini e nel testo letterario: le cause del conflitto troiano e il primo e/o il secondo sacco di Troia costituiscono, infatti, eventi centrali nella storia dei rapporti tra Europa ed Asia che potevano, tra il IV e il III secolo, prestarsi ad una rielaborazione ispirata da eventi storici recenti come le conquiste di Alessandro. Attraverso l’esempio dei miti troiani, analizzeremo le modalità di rappresentazione dei legami familiari (legami tra generazioni e relazioni di sungeneia) e dei rapporti tra gli esseri umani e tra questi e gli dei, riservando particolare attenzione a figure come Elena, Etra ed Esione. Si cercherà di comprendere se le modalità di rappresentazione che il poema e le immagini forniscono dei legami familiari, di quelli sociali e dell’ordine del mondo si caratterizzino, nei vari miti in modi particolari.
