Muchos personajes históricos han sido rechazados, desvirtuados o simplemente subrepresentados en la gran pantalla y por ende, en la pequeña pantalla. Ha sido este el caso de muchos de los personajes que formaron parte de la historia de la conquista de América por parte de los españoles, siendo Marina, conocida como La Malinche, uno de los más ignorados y maltratados por el cine. Su figura histórica ha sufrido el rechazo y la crítica durante siglos y también se ha transmitido esa negatividad a los medios audiovisuales; contaminando su figura que ha aparecido en pocas ocasiones y, casi siempre, de forma fugaz y con poco peso para la historia desarrollada en la película. Los trabajos de los últimos tiempos parecen querer reivindicar a esta mujer que, además de esclava, amante y madre, fue una inteligente traductora y un elemento crucial para la toma del Imperio Mexica por parte de los españoles.
