Allianoi, the ancient site located at Paşa Ilıcası about 20 km northeast of Bergama (ancient Pergamum), was an ancient health centre whose known history goes back to the Hellenistic period. But it was during the Roman Imperial period that it gained fame as a healing centre. Salvage excavations brought to light a great part of the site, where most of the remains uncovered until 2011, are from the late Antiquity and early Byzantine periods (Fig. 1).
