Catherine Moreau, « Enough et la modalisation de l’assertion », Anglophonia Caliban/Sigma, ID : 10.4000/anglophonia.887
This study focuses on the adverb of degree ‘enough’ when associated with phrasal adverbs. Its aim is to explain why adverbs inducing appreciation or conviction are involved in the process and why the adjunction of ‘enough’ to phrasal adverbs conveys subjectivity and reinforcement, as well as dissociation—so why should ‘oddly enough’, [...] mean ‘odd though it may seem’? We will use such properties to demonstrate that the adjunction of ‘enough’ to a phrasal adverb plays a particular role in the construction of assertion and in the structuring of discourse.
