L’Algérie et la France ne peuvent avoir qu’un avenir commun au regard de l’intrication multidimensionnelle de leurs sociétés. Il appartient aux Algériens et aux Français de bonne volonté de part et d’autre de la Méditerranée d’œuvrer à ce que cet avenir soit le plus solidaire et le plus exemplaire possible. Si l’amitié entre les peuples n’a pas besoin de traité mais d’actions concrètes, comme l’a affirmé le président français Sarkozy, un traité simplifié dépouillé de la question mémorielle pourrait être un premier pas dans la voie de la réconciliation franco-algérienne.

Algeria and France cannot but share a common future in light of the multidimensional entanglement of their societies. It is up to the Algerians and the French of good will on both sides of the Mediterranean to work at making their future as mutually supporting and exemplary as possible. If friendship among peoples is not built on treaties but on concrete actions, as French President Sarkozy said, a simplified treaty free of the memory issue could be a first step on the road to Franco-Algerian reconciliation.

لا يمكن لفرنسا والجزائر إلا التعاون لبناء مستقبل مشترك نتيجة التداخل المتعدد الاتجاهات بين مجتمعيهما. فعلى الجزائريين والفرنسيين أصحاب النوايا الحسنة من طرفي المتوسط العمل أن يكون هذا المستقبل على أكثر قدر من التعاضد والنموذجية. فإذا كانت الصداقة بين الشعوب لا تحتاج إلى معاهدات بل إلى أفعال واقعية كما أكد على ذلك الرئيس نيكولا ساركوزي، فإن معاهدة مبسطة لا تأتي على ذكر مسألة الذاكرة بإمكانها أن تكون خطوة أولى بالاتجاه نحو المصالحة الفرنسية الجزائرية.
