With great sounding of trumpets 1989 saw the dawning of a new age in France: the then Minister of Education, Mr Jospin, introduced the experiment of teaching a foreign language in cours moyen (CM). The experiment was to be conducted over a period of three years before it was generally introduced in all primary schools.
