Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit Jiří Grušas Leben und Werk im Hinblick auf sein literarisches, politisches und kulturvermittelndes Wirken. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Frage nach den prägenden geschichtlichen (mitteleuropäischen) Ereignissen und wie er diese für sein schriftstellerisches Schaffen produktiv umgesetzt hat (Gedichtbände Der Babylonwald und Wandersteine). Dabei wird sowohl der biographische als auch politische Kontext seiner Dichtung in Beziehung gesetzt. Als besonders interessant erweisen sich für die Fragestellung seine Essays bzw. Essaybände (Gebrauchsanweisung für Tschechien, Glücklich heimatlos, Beneš als Österreicher), die auf ihr Potential der politischen und kulturvermittelnden Wirkung hin untersucht werden.

L’article porte sur la vie et l’œuvre de Jiří Gruša en considérant son activité littéraire, politique et son rôle de passeur culturel. L’étude se concentre sur les événements ayant marqué l’histoire de l’Europe centrale et la façon dont le poète les a intégrés de manière productive dans son œuvre littéraire (recueils Der Babylonwald et Wandersteine). Le contexte biographique tout autant que politique de son œuvre poétique est pris en considération. Ses essais, ou plus exactement ses volumes d’essais (Gebrauchsanweisung für Tschechien, Glücklich heimatlos, Beneš als Österreicher), examinés sous l’angle de leurs potentiels effets politiques et de leur dimension médiatrice, se révèlent alors particulièrement intéressants.

The article deals with Jiří Gruša’s life and work in terms of his literary and political activities and as a cultural mediator. The focus is on the question of the formative historical (Central European) events and how he has implemented them productively in his literary work (volumes of poetry Der Babylonwald and Wandersteine). In doing so, both, the biographical and the political context of his poetry are related. His essays or essay volumes (Gebrauchsanweisung für Tschechien, Glücklich heimatlos, Beneš als Österreicher), which are examined for their potential political and cultural-mediating effects, turn out to be of particular interest in this regard.
