La circulation monétaire dans la région de l’ancienne Voura (Aigialeia)

À l’occasion du creusement du tunnel RW2 sur le trajet Trapeza-Diakopto de la nouvelle ligne ferroviaire Corinthe-Patras, dans la région de Trapeza Aigialeias, ont été mis au jour des vestiges de bâtiments datant de l’époque archaïque à l’époque hellénistique, qui font partie d’un habitat dépendant de Voura, importante cité située à l’Est d’Aigialeia. Au nombre des trouvailles archéologiques, on compte beaucoup de monnaies de bronze provenant des cités voisines de Sicyone, Corinthe et Athènes, qui constituent l’horizon politique et économique naturel de la cité, ainsi que des pièces émises par d’autres États, notamment les Locriens d’Oponte, le koinon des Épirotes et l’Eubée. En présentant les monnaies trouvées à Trapeza, majoritairement des petites dénominations en bronze, nous entendons souligner leur apport pour une étude de la vie économique de la région et démontrer par ailleurs que les cités, en frappant monnaie, stimulaient de manière significative leur économie.

Rescue excavations for the construction of the Escape Tunnel RW2 on the Trapeza-Diakopto section of the new Corinth-Patras rail link, in the Trapeza Aegialeias region, uncovered the remains of buildings dating from the Archaic to the Hellenistic period. These form part of a settlement that came under the dominion of Voura (a very important city lying to the east of Aegialeia). The archaeological finds included a significant number of bronze coins originating from the vicinity, more specifically from the cities of Sicyon, Corinth and Athens, which were predominant on both the political and the economic front, as well as coins minted in other city states, such as Opuntii Locri, the Koinon of Epirus and Euboia. In presenting all of the abovementioned coins found at Trapeza, which are mostly bronze and of small denominations, we wish to point out their importance in the economic life of the region. We would also like to demonstrate that, by issuing their coinage, these cities gave a huge boost to their economy.

Κατά τη διάρκεια ανασκαφικών εργασιών για τη διάνοιξη του τούνελ RW2 του σιδηροδροµικού δικτύου Τράπεζα-Διακοφπτό της νέας σιδηροδροµικής γραµµής Κορίνθου-Πάτρας, στην περιοχή Τράπεζα Αιγιαλείας, ήρθαν στο φως λείψανα κτηρίων που χρονολογούνται από την αρχαϊκή έως την ελληνιστική περίοδο και τα οποία ανήκουν σε µια εγκατάσταση που ανήκε στη Βούρα, σπουδαία πόλη στα ανατολικά της Αιγιαλείας. Μεταξύ των αρχαιολογικών ευρηµάτων συγκαταλέγεται ένας σηµαντικός αριθµός χάλκινων νοµισµάτων προερχοµένων από τις γείτονες Σικυώνα, Κόρινθο και Αθήνα, πόλεις που υπερείχαν από πολιτική και οικονοµική άποψη στην περιοχή, καθώς και κοπές άλλων πόλεων (Οπούντιοι Λοκροί, Κοινό των Ηπειρωτών και Εύβοια). Παρουσιάζοντας τις ανωτέρω κοπές, που βρέθηκαν στην Τράπεζα, στην πλειονότητά τους χάλκινες και µικρής διαµέτρου, θα θέλαµε να επισηµάνουµε τη σπουδαιότητα τους στην οικονοµική ζωή της περιοχής. Θα θέλαµε επίσης να αποδείξουµε ότι οι πόλεις αυτές κόβοντας νοµίσµατα τόνωσαν σηµαντικά την οικονοµία τους.
