Une collection de monnaies conservée au Musée de Nauplie

Un ensemble de 55 monnaies conservé dans les réserves du Musée archéologique de Nauplie est accompagné d’une indication ancienne, qui le relie à la collection de G. Thermogiannis, offerte au Musée, très probablement après sa mort en 1945. Il y est signalé que les monnaies proviennent d’une boîte qui contenait aussi les gemmes de la même collection. Toutefois, les monnaies n’ont pas reçu de numéro d’inventaire et ne sont reprises dans aucun des catalogues anciens de la donation Thermogiannis. L’identification des 51 monnaies antiques, grecques et romaines, les unes assez banales, d’autres moins, permet de les ordonner par ateliers et zones géographiques, ce qui amène à constater que l’ensemble correspond mieux au contenu d’une autre grande donation faite au Musée archéologique de Nauplie, celle de l’avocat E. Glymenopoulos.

A group of 55 coins has been kept in the storage areas of the Nafplion Archaeological Museum, along with an old indication that linked them to the G. Thermogiannis collection, donated to the Museum after the collector’s death in 1945. The indication stated that the coins came from the same box, where the gems of the collection were kept. However, the coins did not carry entry numbers and were not included in any of the old lists of the objects of the Thermogiannis donation. A further study of the 51 ancient Greek and Roman coins of the group, apart from presenting both known and less prevalent types, led to their classification according to geographic areas and issuing authorities. This offered tentative evidence for the connection of the coins with the other large donation to the Nafplion Archaeological Museum, that of the lawyer E. Glymenopoulos.

Σύνολο 55 νοµισµάτων φυλασσόταν στις αποθήκες του αρχαιολογικού Μουσείου Ναυπλίου, συνοδευόµενο από παλαιά ένδειξη που το συνέδεε µε τη συλλογή του Γ. Θερµογιάννη, η οποία δωρίθηκε στο Μουσείο πιθανότατα µετά το θάνατό του, το 1945. Η ένδειξη ανέφερε πως προέρχονταν από το ίδιο κουτί, όπου βρίσκονταν σφραγιδόλιθοι της συλλογής. Ωστόσο, τα νοµίσµατα δεν έφεραν αριθµό εισαγωγής και δεν περιλαµβάνονταν σε κάποιον από τους παλαιότερους καταλόγους των αντικειµένων της δωρεάς Θερµογιάννη. Η περαιτέρω µελέτη των 51 αρχαίων ελληνικών και ρωµαϊκών νοµισµάτων του συνόλου, πέρα από παρουσίαση γνωστών αλλά και λιγότερο διαδεδοµένων τύπων, οδήγησε στην κατά νοµισµατικές αρχές και γεωγραφικές ενότητες κατανοµή τους. Η κατάταξη αυτή, προσέφερε αµυδρές ενδείξεις για τη σύνδεση του συνόλου µε την άλλη µεγάλη δωρεά του Μουσείου Ναυπλίου, αυτή του δικηγόρου Ε. Γλυµενόπουλου.
