Étude sur la chronologie des archontats de Damasias à Athènes et de la première guerre sacrée à Delphes

Les sources proposent deux dates concurrentes pour l’archontat de Damasias : 582/1 et 580/79. Cette étude tente premièrement d’établir que ces propositions sont toutes deux correctes. En effet, le nom de Damasias devait figurer sur la liste des archontes pour les trois années durant lesquelles il exerça cette charge, et non uniquement pour la première. La seconde partie de l’étude propose une interprétation nouvelle des intervalles de temps qui, dans le chapitre XIII de la Constitution d’Athènes, scandent la période séparant le départ de Solon de la désignation de Damasias, afin de les faire correspondre avec les deux termini établis plus haut. Pareille démarche oblige à remettre sur le métier la chronologie de l’archontat solonien qui constitue le point de départ du comput, question que nous aborderons à travers l’implication du législateur dans la première guerre sacrée.

Μελέτη της χρονολόγησης της θητείας του Δαμασία στο αξίωμα του επωνύμου άρχοντος στην Αθήνα και του πρώτου ιερού πολέμου στους Δελφούς.Οι πηγές προτείνουν δύο χρονολογήσεις για την θητεία του Δαμασία στο αξίωμα του επωνύμου άρχοντος : το 582/1 και το 580/79. Η μελέτη αυτή επιχειρεί αρχικά να αποδείξει ότι και οι δύο αυτές προτάσεις είναι ορθές. Πράγματι, το όνομα του Δαμασία πρέπει να υπήρχε στους καταλόγους των αρχόντων τις τρεις χρονιές κατά τις οποίες άσκησε αυτό το αξίωμα και όχι μόνο την πρώτη. Στο δεύτερο μέρος του άρθρου προτείνεται μια νέα ερμηνεία για τις χρονικές υποδιαιρέσεις της περιόδου που, στο κεφάλαιο ΧΙΙΙ της Αθηναίων Πολιτείας, χωρίζει την αποχώρηση του Σόλωνα από τον διορισμό του Δαμασία, ώστε να αντιστοιχηθούν με τα δύο termini που ορίστηκαν παραπάνω. Μια τέτοια προσέγγιση μας υποχρεώνει να επενεξετάσουμε τη χρονολόγηση της θητείας του Σόλωνα στο αξίωμα του άρχοντος, που αποτελεί και το σημείο εκκίνησης του υπολογισμού, ζήτημα που θα προσεγγίσουμε μέσω της ανάμειξης του νομοθέτη στον πρώτο ιερό πόλεμο.

On the dating of the term of Damasias in the office of eponymous archon in Athens and the first Sacred War in Delphi.Sources suggest two dates for the term of office of Damasias as eponymous archon: 582/1 and 580/79. This paper first aims to prove that both suggestions are correct. Indeed, the name Damasias must have been in the catalogues of archons for the three years during which he held the office, and not just the first. In the second part of the article, a new interpretation is proposed for the chronological subdivisions of the period that marks Solon’s departure and the assumption of the office by Damasias, as known from Chapter XIII of Athenaion Politeia (Constitution of the Athenians), so that these correspond to the two termini defined above. Such an approach obliges us to re‑examine the dating of Solon’s term of office as archon, which forms the point from which calculations are made, an issue that shall be approached through the involvement of the lawgiver in the first Sacred War.
