La restauration de la base de Ménodôros à Délos

Dans le BCH 139‑140 (2015-2016) a été publiée une étude des deux monuments érigés l’un à Délos, l’autre à Athènes en l’honneur du pancratiaste et lutteur Ménodôros. Celui de Délos a été l’objet d’une restauration complète en 2018-2019. Tous les blocs manquants ont été réalisés en marbre et le principal d’entre eux, l’orthostate portant les couronnes remportées par Ménodôros, a été copié par une machine-outil à commande numérique (CNC). Le démontage partiel et le remontage de la krépis d’une part, l’étude préalable à l’anastylose du piédestal et sa réalisation d’autre part ont été l’occasion de faire plusieurs observations qui viennent compléter et, sur certains points, amender la publication du BCH. Elles permettent de mieux comprendre les intentions des concepteurs de la base pour la perception du groupe sculpté qui se dressait sur une surface légèrement inclinée vers la façade du monument.

Στον τόµο του BCH 139‑140 (2015-2016) δηµοσιεύθηκε η µελέτη δύο µνηµείων, εκ των οποίων το ένα ιδρύθηκε στη ∆ήλο και το δεύτερο στην Αθήνα, προς τιµήν του παγκρατιαστή και παλαιστή Μηνοδώρου. Το ανάθηµα της ∆ήλου αναστηλώθηκε πλήρως το 2018-2019. Τα ελλείποντα µέλη συµπληρώθηκαν µε νέα µαρµάρινα, ενώ το σηµαντικότερο αυτών, ο ορθοστάτης που φέρει τα στεφάνια των νικών του Μηνοδώρου, αντιγράφηκε µε ψηφιακό µηχανοκίνητο παντογράφο (CNC). Η µερική αποξήλωση και επανατοποθέτηση της κρηπίδας αφενός, η προκαταρκτική µελέτη πριν από την αναστήλωση της βάσης, και η εφαρµογή της αφετέρου, έδωσαν την ευκαιρία για την πραγµατοποίηση πολλών παρατηρήσεων, οι οποίες πρόκειται να συµπληρώσουν και να βελτιώσουν ως ένα βαθµό τη δηµοσίευση του BCH. Επιτρέπουν την καλύτερη κατανόηση των προθέσεων αυτών που οραµατίστηκαν την βάση σχετικά µε τη σύλληψη ενός συντάγµατος γλυπτών, το οποίο αναπτύσσονταν σε µια επιφάνεια ελαφρώς επικλινή προς την πρόσοψη του µνηµείου.

Published in BCH 139‑140 (2015-2016) was a study of the two monuments erected in honour of the pancratiast and wrestler Menodoros, one on Delos and the other in Athens. The monument on Delos was fully restored in 2018-2019. All missing blocks were replaced in marble, and the primary one, the orthostate bearing the wreaths won by Menodoros, was copied using computer numerical control machining tools (CNC). The partial dismantling and reassembly of the krepis on the one hand, and the study prior to the anastylosis of the pedestal and its realization on the other offered the opportunity for several observations that complement and in some respects amend the conclusions published in BCH. They allow a better understanding of the intentions of the base’s designers for the perception of the sculptural group that stood on a surface slightly inclined towards the façade of the monument
